Notes on Access to WRDS

Access Pass for Carleton users is valid for one day. You must use your Carleton email address to register and receive your access link.

Faculty and graduate students may register for an account to access WRDS from anywhere. Registration takes 1-2 business days to process.

Description

Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is a research platform and business intelligence tool that allows researchers to easily retrieve information from a wide variety of financial, economic, and marketing data sources.

Currently, Carleton University has access to:  

  • Compustat
  • CRSP (Center for Research in Security Prices)

WRDS also includes the following databases: 

  • Bank Regulatory Database
  • Blockholders
  • CBOE Indexes
  • DMEF Academic Data
  • Dow Jones
  • Fama French Portfolios and Liquidity Factors
  • Federal Reserve Bank
  • MSRB
  • OTC Markets
  • Penn World Tables
  • PHLX (Philadelphia Stock Exchange)
  • SEC Order Execution
  • TRACE

Important Details: 

  • Registration is required for access.  Only available to current Carleton faculty, students and staff (no alumni or walk-in users).
    • Access Pass for Carleton Users:  request a one-day account by providing your Carleton email address when prompted on the "Connect to WRDS" page.  You will be sent an email with an Access Pass link.
    • Off-campus anywhere pass for faculty, doctorate and master students: 
      • Go to the WRDS website
      • Select the Register tab or link "Register for a WRDS Account"
      • Complete the Account Request Form
      • Once you submit, an email will be sent to a Carleton University WRDS Account Representative
      • An account will be created once your Carleton status is verified.  An email with instructions on setting up a password will be sent.
