Omni is different from the old Library Catalogue in two ways:
- Omni allows you to search across a wider range of library resources than what was available in the Library Catalogue.
- Omni has a different way of searching for library resources.
Both of these differences are described in the sections that follow.
What can I search with Omni?
The Library Catalogue included books, journals, and other materials that made up the Library's collection. However, if you wanted to find articles or book chapters, you needed to use Summon or a specialized database to find relevant materials.
With Omni, all this information is available in one place! Omni includes individual articles and ebook chapters, as well as the books, journals and other materials that make up the Library's collection.
Omni also makes it easier to search for resources that are not in the Library's collection, but that we can get for you through interlibrary loan.
Searching with Omni
Omni has an interface that is optimized for searching and filtering results across a wide range of formats and sources.
To search for resources with Omni: From the search box on the Library home page, enter the keywords or phrases relevant to your search, then click Search.
Omni will display a list of resources that match your search criteria.
You'll notice that the results include books, articles, and other kinds of materials. The results listing also includes links to online resources or call numbers for print items.
Use the filters on the left-hand side of the page to filter the search results to include materials that you are interested in.
For example, to view articles that were published in the last 5 years that are available online, you could choose
- Resource Type = Articles
- Publication Date = 2015 to 2020
- Availability = Online
As you choose the filters on the left, the search results on the right update to show the results of your choice.
You can click an item in the results listing to see the full record for the item.
