Introduction

The library has entered into a number of agreements with publishers that offer no charge open access publishing, or Article Processing Charge (APC) discounts.

The CURIE Fund is available even if you take advantage of a discount. In all correspondence with the publisher, use your Carleton email as that is usually how they note your affiliation.

Publisher Fee Notes
American Chemical Society $250 USD flat discount. APC discount is applied upon submission of manuscript. Authors must identify their institutional affiliation in order to qualify for the discount.
Cambridge University Press No charge for publishing articles as open access in Cambridge hybrid and gold journals. The following five article types are included: Research Article, Review Article, Rapid Communication, Brief Reports, Case Reports.

Canadian Science Publishing 25% discount on all journals except agricultural journals (Canadian Journal of Agricultural Science, Canadian Journal of Soil Science, Canadian Journal of Plant Science). APC discount is applied upon submission of manuscript. Authors must identify their institutional affiliation in order to qualify for the discount.
Elsevier (CRKN) A 20% discount on APCs for both hybrid and gold open access journals. Cell Press, Lancet, and some other society-owned journals are excluded. Authors should identify themselves as a Carleton researcher at time of article submission. Contact patricia.moore@carleton.ca to confirm journal is eligible for discount.
Institute of Physics (CRKN)

Authors affiliated with an institution participating in the CRKN agreement will be able to publish an unlimited number of their articles as open access in most IOP hybrid and gold journals for the duration of the agreement (2022-2024).

Royal Society of Chemistry Journals A 15% APC discount has been negotiated for CRKN-affiliated authors in RSC hybrid journals. The APC discount process is entirely automatic, authors must use their institutional email in order to qualify for the discount.
SAGE Transformative agreement No APC in over 900 SAGE Choice journals. Authors may also use a 40% APC discount to publish in SAGE’s gold open access journals. Contact patricia.moore@carleton.ca for details.
Taylor & Francis 25% discount in T&F Open Select (hybrid) journals. If possible, authors should use their Carleton email during article submission. The choice to make the article open access is offered upon acceptance. Generate an APC quote by selecting Carleton University, the discount will be automatically applied. Once quote is accepted, select your choice of Creative Commons license, then select the invoice payer (themselves or a third-party organization), and the invoice is sent out at the discounted rate.
